Company History

The Williams Innovations’ story began in 1999 when Tommy Williams was presented with the first in a series of problems associated with operating heavy trailers.  A retired Durham, NC firefighter and avid inventor, Tommy’s early designs caught the attention of engineers in the US Army’s Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM).  

Working with TACOM engineers and a network of supporters in Army units, Tommy used an intuitive grasp of torque and leverage to design products that help people connect and disconnect trailers from their tow vehicles.  Tommy’s ingenuity and persistence paid off.  Ten years, fourteen patents, and five products later, Williams has built a reputation for designing and delivering innovative, high-quality products.  

We created Williams Innovations LLC to ensure the technologies that Tommy invented reach their full market potential.  The company is organized around two technologies:  TeleSwivel™ hitch technology, and Trailer Stability and Support technology.  Products based on these technologies are developed for individual trailer and/or prime mover components, and combined into easy-to-order assemblies for various models.

We are currently focused on serving the US military, but our vision extends beyond the battlefield.  In the near future, we will adapt our battle-tested products to improve the speed and safety of trailering operations in a variety of industrial, commercial, and consumer markets, including aviation, agriculture, material handling, and personal vehicles.
